During the panel for “What will the world look like for future joint force commanders?”, Australian Defence College Fellow Dr. Michael Evans spoke about urbanization and how it is not often associated with modern warfare. He also said senior officers may need to reevaluate their thinking.
“It’s always the urgent that triumphs over the important and we need to change that. What is the difference between proficiency and awareness? What are our officers proficient in? What do they need to be aware of? I worry about the softening of the military. The areas of proficiency and awareness need to be better defined. We also need to create new agencies that support military. You can’t expect the military to do it all.”
