Vice President for Strategy and Business Development, Enforcement, Security and Intelligence Mr. Samuel Visner discussed the importance of situational awareness and cyber operations during a panel session. He said the cyber factor has both benefits and disadvantages on future joint operations.
“Cyber operations is a tool of warfighting. Do we have an understanding of the intelligence required for cyber operations? What kind of situational awareness do we need for cyber operations?.”
Visner said using the cyber factor allows the U.S. armed forces to have, or gain access to, more thorough information about critical supplies, security, engagement, development, and troop locations. However, adversaries have access to this information as well, which is why situational awareness is key for successful cyber operations.
