  1. 1. Terabytes of data at 56kb/sec? How is this different from systems like Angel Fire that use up to 45Mb/sec
    2. Who does the PED of that much data? The problem is not transporting the game signal to your house, but the army of technicians to put the line of scrimage on the image. Without intelligent systems and autotagging, it’s just more data for overstrapped analysists to filter.

  2. Mike — VA does not push terabytes of data down 56kb/sec pipes. Rather, VA provides access to near real time full-motion video (FMV) for situational awareness at 56 Kb rates to support bandwidth disadvantaged users. VA allows an user to conduct analysis on selected FMV and wide-area aerial surveillance (WAAS) data over a specific area that is relevant to his/her problem set/target base. By illustration — let’s say VA was being used by NFL scouts (again, this is a hypothetical example). If all a scout was interested in during a football game is how the left offensive tackle was doing, VA would allow the scout to zoom in on the left tackle — and only focus on the left tackle — without being overwhelmed by the rest of the game.

    With respect to the processing, exploitation and dissemination (PED) of FMV and WAAS data, while understanding your point, let’s go back to the ability to select just what is of specific interest (aka – the left tackle). Basically, VA supports discovery, access, and retrieval of just the right data, over the right area, to the right analyst, thus allowing that SME to conduct PED on data specific to his/her interest. This ability — to select the appropriate data for analysis — de facto provides the analyst with a capability to filter the terabytes of data being collected.
